Welcome back after the summer break and welcome to St. Peter’s allof our many new families. You are very welcome here.
Our children learn in a fun, engaging, purposeful environment that is tailored to meet the needs of all pupils. Our broad and balanced curriculum gives pupils the opportunity to meet all National Curriculum requirements but also to learn from first-hand experiences and varied learning opportunities across a range of inspiring topics. We value creativity – drama, art, design, music – and sport – gymnastics, dance, field sports, athletics – as much as we value English, mathematics, science and all other academic subjects. We are proud to offer a wide range of extra-curricular clubs and activities.
As a Church school we strongly embrace Christian values but are equally as welcoming and respectful to children from all other religions. Spiritual, Social, Moral & Cultural development is integral in all we do, including developing fundamental British Values. We hold Christian Values and our School Values (Respect, Resilience, Resourcefulness and always Aiming High) as the foundations on which we build our curriculum. We also use Growth Mindset (do Google it!) as a core underpinning of all that we do.
Our aim at St. Peter’s is to help the children leave our school with high quality skills and an unwavering belief and confidence in their own ability, well prepared for the next stage in their education.
YR Welcome Evening – Thank you to those Parents/Carers who were able to attend our Welcome Evenings last term. We hope you found them useful and informative. The Welcome Evening for Reception parents will be on Tuesday 26th September at 6.00pm. Please do come, as it is an important opportunity for Parents/Carers to gather information about plans for the forthcoming year.
After School Clubs – All after school clubs will start week commencing Monday 18th September (with the exception of karate which has already started and knitting). A clubs sheet and invitation letter from Mrs Jewell will be circulated to Parents/Carers shortly, with confirmation of places being sent home later next week. Should your child be unable to attend an after school club then please either write to the club organiser, or telephone the School Office to advise of your child’s absence. Registers will be taken every day for each club and for any child that is absent, then a phone call to Parents/Carers will be made.
Jeans for Genes Day, 22.09.17 – Children are invited to come to school in their jeans with the rest of their normal school uniform. Our children will be waiting at the playground gates with buckets for any donation you wish to make to the charity ‘Genetic Disorders UK’ in exchange for being able to wear jeans to school.
Internet Safety - Under our Safer Use of Internet program of study, it has been drawn to my attention that there is a new on-line game released which does not have appropriate safeguards on it for children. The game Roblox has become quite popular at school and just one online review of this game is quite damming due to the exposure to outside ‘players’ and risk of online grooming. The link to the review is:
This does not suggest that there is anything malicious in the game itself, just that the lack of restrictions on it make it particularly useful for outside influences. I would discourage this game being used or used with extra caution and Parents/Carers to be ever vigilant.
INSET days – The remaining 4 INSET days for this academic year will be Friday 20th October, Friday 9th February 2018, Monday 23rd July and Tuesday 24th July. Please note these in your diaries.
Year Group Assemblies – The dates for the Year Group Assemblies have now been confirmed for the Spring Term. Parents/Carers are warmly invited to join us.
YR: Friday 9th March
Y1: Friday 16th March
Y2: Friday 26th January
Y3: Friday 2nd February
Y4: Friday 2nd March
Y5: Friday 23rd February
Y6: Thursday 19th July
Class Reps – In previous years, St. Peter’s has been very fortunate to have a willing group of Parents represent their child’s class at a meeting held each half-term. Class Reps act as a sounding board for new initiatives, give feedback on general school matters, and most importantly act as a link between their class, the PTA and the school. Some Class Reps from last year have kindly agreed to continue this year, however for some it is not possible which means we have vacancies in Starfish, Octopus, Puffins, Seahorses, Turtles, Dolphins, Stingray, Swordfish, Penguins & Pelicans.
If you are interested in representing any of these classes, please contact Alice in the School Office. The first meeting is on Friday 29th September, 2.15pm – 3.00pm in our Conference Room.
Staff Vacancy – We are looking for a Mid-day Meal Supervisor. The hours will be 11.35am to 1.15pm each day (8 hours 20 minutes per week) on a salary of £7.90 per hour starting on 2nd October. You may be required to assist with the setting up and clearing away of tables and chairs. This involves lifting tables and is fairly physical work. If you are interested in applying or would like more information, please contact the School Business Manager on 01273 492447 or via email firstname.lastname@example.org marked for the attention of Mrs C. Marrs.
Y6 Steyning Grammar School Open Morning – Y6 Parents may like to know that Steyning Grammar have confirmed that their open days for visiting are being held on 27th & 28th September along with an evening presentation on the 28th. In the past children from St. Peter’s have been allocated a morning to visit, which we are waiting for confirmation of. Once we have been notified, we will let you know. Further details of the open mornings can be found on their website http://www.sgs.uk.net/. Please note that if you do decide to visit, the absence from school will be recorded as authorised.
General School Procedures – Coming home today will be a copy of our ‘General School Procedures’. Please take a moment to read it and familiarise yourself with our guidelines. Don’t forget you can now email us if your child is not going to be in school email@example.com.
Census Day – Thursday 5th October 2017
This will be our first census day for this academic year, and like before we are encouraging all EYFS/KS1 children to try the hot meal at lunchtime. For those that prefer to bring a packed lunch in, we would ask that your child collects a hot meal, even if it is put to the side and the packed lunch eaten as usual. This ensures that we receive the maximum funding possible for hot meals. The special menu choice arranged for the day will be:
Main: Pizza Margherita or Pasta con Manzo Bolognese
Side: Pane all’aglio (Garlic Bread) or Pisellli (Peas) or Insalata Verde (Green Salad)
Dessert: Tutti Frutti Yogurt
Drink: Milk or Water
Children can either choose a main or have half & half with half a main plus a side.
For children in KS2 who would like the above, the meal must be ordered by Sunday 24th September.
Finally, some Parents/Carers may have noticed that we have a new pedestrian path, leading to the main entrance of the school. If you need to come to the office, whether your child is late, you are dropping something off or even just to speak to the office, please park your car on the side roads and use the pedestrian access. During school time, the gate can just be pushed open.
