Henfield Garden & Arts - We were delighted to take part in the Village Gardens and Arts weekend on Saturday. Over the day, we welcomed many visitors to the school who really enjoyed viewing the exhibition of our children’s work around the Take One Picture theme and exploring our Key Stage One outdoor classroom and memorial garden. Thanks in particular to children from Y2 & Y5 who entertained us with their singing.
Isle of Wight - Y6 had a fantastic week on the Isle of Wight at PGL before half term with wonderful weather to match! Children enjoyed a variety of activities, ranging from kayaking to climbing, abseiling, orienteering and fencing. We felt the children really developed their co-operative teamwork skills, working together but also encouraging each other with challenging tasks brilliantly. We were very impressed with them over the week and hope they have lots of fun memories to treasure!
Equalities Day – on Tuesday and Wednesday last week, Y6 were visited by Steyning Grammar School Equality Commissioners and their teachers. Each class had a workshop for a day, learning about equality in race, gender and disability amongst other aspects of equality. A particular highlight for the children was experiencing and testing how accessible our school is for wheelchair users! Thank you to the teachers and students of Steyning Grammar for their time and effort, and for provoking some thoughtful conversations.
Absence – If you are reporting your child as being unwell, and unable to come to school, why not try emailing us on our new ‘absence’ email address – firstname.lastname@example.org. This is only to be used for absences, any change in pick-up arrangements still need to be reported by telephoning Jodie before 3.00pm, to ensure the change is given to the Class Teacher in time for the end of school. Similarly, any request for extended absence e.g. holiday need to be requested using a leave of absence form, obtained from the office.
Y5 Charity Day – As mentioned last week, this Thursday Y5 will be holding a fundraising event in aid of a charity called Snehalya. The children have learnt about the charity, who support deprived children in India by providing a safe living environment and learning opportunities, from Mrs Tickel’s daughter, Izzy, who recently undertook a project on Snehalya through her university work. Through Izzy’s own experience, the children felt they also wanted to do some fundraising to help and are planning to hold an event next Thursday, 15th June with mini games and a cake sale after school. Money raised will go directly to paying for a treat for the children in India, such as a picnic and an ice cream.
Competition T-shirts – Our supply is desperately low, with tops used for recent matches/tournaments not returned. Currently we have 9 polo shirts and 19 round neck t-shirts missing. They are our school green with the school logo on the front. Please could we ask that they are returned quickly, as soon we will have to revert to our old ones which are very tatty.

FieldFest Needs You!
We hope you’ve seen our lovely FieldFest posters and banners popping up all over Henfield. Less than a month now to go until the big event and to say we are excited would be a huge understatement! Hopefully you have your tickets and are all ready to join us for a brilliant day.
In the meantime, please don’t forget that we need your help in order to make this the best PTA event yet. Here’s a little reminder of how you can get involved…………..
1. Make a donation to the tombola’s that will be situated in the FieldFest Mini Market. We need soft toys for the kids and bottles for the grown-ups please. All donations can be dropped off at the school office from now until the 7th July
2. Make a cake, cup-cakes, biscuits or other yummy treats for the FieldFest café. Everyone loves a slice of something delicious and so we need a bumper selection to sell this year. All contributions to be dropped off at school on Friday 7th please.
3. Donate some of your time to help us run the event, this could range from a shift on the door, selling goods on one of our stalls, painting faces or doing temporary tattoos or generally helping out with running the event. Please get in touch with Jo on 07747 065 770 if you can support us on the day
And of course, if you don’t already have your tickets don’t forget that you can buy them from the School Office, Stokes or Jasmins NOW. They are selling fast so get yours now to make sure you don’t miss out.
