Nothing definite to report as yet but there are a number of people working very hard to try to secure a permanent cashpoint machine in our village.
1. Our MP Nick Herbert has written to banking leaders and regulators after Henfield's business owners told him of the problems they were facing because shoppers have been unable to obtain cash. He is also aware that some cashpoint machines impose a charge (including the one in Budgens). Our MP has taken all this up with John Howells, Chief Executive of LINK, Charles Randell, Chairman of the Payment Systems Regulator (PSR) and Jes Staley, Group Chief Executive Officer of Barclays Bank.
We are in touch with Michelle Taylor (Nick Herbert's Constituency Researcher) who has promised to let us know immediately when she has further news on this.
2. Horsham District Councillor Mike Morgan is having discussions with Barclays Bank to see if it can provide any sort of banking facility in Henfield. Mike has met with the Officer from the Bank responsible for ATM's who came down from London and together they trawled the High Street and came up with a possibility. The Officer has gone away to get his Security Engineer to look into it as clearly with the raid in Henfield and elsewhere recently they are even more conscious of the security aspect. Mike will keep us posted so we can inform everyone as soon as a decision is made.
3. Jacob (Jake) Watts CCIBS - Community Banker for NatWest is also in touch with us and would like everyone to be aware that his 'drop-in surgery times' have now changed to Monday afternoons. You will be able to find him every week from 2pm - 4pm at The George Hotel. He has also investigated why the NatWest mobile bank failed to turn up on a couple of occasions and found that both instances were unavoidable, once due to staff sickness, another due to planned vehicle maintenance on the van itself. Jake will update us with changes to services whenever possible, to ensure residents are notified in advance.
4. Henfield Parish Council is also investigating all possible avenues to secure better cashpoint services in the village.
So to summarise, there is no news as yet but all interested parties are doing everything they can to provide cash withdrawal facilities in Henfied and the Hub will provide the information for you all as soon as we get it.
Meanwhile you are reminded once again that our excellent Post Offices in Small Dole and Henfield can provide banking services for most of the mainline banks. (click here and select the 'Withdraw and Deposits' tab to see the complete list of participating banks.)
