The following statement has been given by a spokesman for the new owners of Leonardslee Gardens:

“Due to various circumstances outlined below, the opening of Leonardslee Gardens will be postponed until July 2018. We apologise for any inconvenience and want to explain the reasons for the delay.

Please be assured that annual memberships will be valid for 12 months from the new opening date - with priority access 10 days before the official opening date. We will let you know the exact date as soon as possible. Membership packs will be posted nearer the time.

The restoration of the gardens, lakes and house is taking much longer than planned due to a number of factors. This includes a range of environmental protection issues which have arisen and delayed works, with the discovery of endangered bat and newt colonies.

The weather has been against us too, with considerable rainfall delaying the refurbishment of pathways down to the lakes and other essential works. We have two teams of builders and gardeners who are out in all weathers, but inevitably the rain impacts on what they can achieve.

I would ask you to please bear with us and I thank you for your patience in advance.

I am sure that you will be very impressed with the final results and we look forward to welcoming you to Leonardslee Gardens. In the meantime, we hope to offer some limited access to the house, rock garden and dolls house museum before the final opening date. We will keep you fully informed so that you can plan your visit.

Again, our sincere apologies: please contact Leonardslee if you have any further questions or comments. Thank you.”

We were also told that a Wedding Fair is being held at Leonardslee on Sunday 22 April which the organisers hope will be the first of many events. The House should be up and running by May complete with a beautiful Fine Dining Restaurant….yet to be named!
