A local group organised by David Silverson, which meets two or three
times every year to raise money for local charitable causes, met in Henfield Cricket Club with a General Knowledge Quiz to raise money for one of the participating cadets, Charlie Harrison, to go on the Royal Air Cadets ‘Peru 2018 Expedition’. The evening included light refreshments and a raffle and raised the magnificent sum of £480. It was attended by about 50 people - eleven teams of four plus helpers - and the winning team was called ’Gamebirds’.

23 Squadrons of young people aged 12-20 years old, across Sussex comprise the Sussex Wing section of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets. To commemorate 100 years of the RAF the Sussex wing has opened applications for 24 cadets to earn a place on an expedition to Cusco, Peru for Summer 2018. The expedition is focused around raising money and training cadets to assist in building an important extension to the Azul Wazi orphanage in Peru and hiking a trail up Machu Picchu. These extra buildings will help the orphanage to accommodate more children who have the misfortune to live on the streets. Cusco has one of the highest poverty rates in Peru, with 30% of the population living below the poverty line. It is therefore important to give the children that live this unfortunate lifestyle some support.
