A development of up to 6,120 dwellings together with associated infrastructure is currently being proposed by Mayfield Market Towns (MMT) for consideration by HDC. The site falls in Woodmancote, Shermanbury and Henfield parish areas
MMT are promoting a new town almost three times the size of Henfield right on our doorstep. The outline shown is the actual area put forward to be considered in the Horsham District Plan review. MMT has been repeatedly rejected and widely condemned by the local communities, parish and district councils and local MPs . These are unscrupulous developers who will have you believe that a new town will alleviate the pressures of over development in Henfield. Instead, a settlement of this size only several hundred metres from our boundary’s edge would destroy our rural village community.
There is no suitable infrastructure, it is miles from the nearest railway station, and it will only add excessively to the already heavy strain on our public services and busy roads. It is a very real threat with an agreement in place with Horsham District Council that obliges HDC to test its deliverability and help overcome any obstacles. It is important that the community comes together to show the strength of opposition to such unsuitable and unsustainable development.
LAMBS are currently organizing a meeting to inform the local residents of the proposals and the work being done to oppose the town. For more details on Mayfield's latest proposal, click here.
