Our annual service of lessons and carols on Sunday 17th December was, as usual, a feast of wonderful music. The congregation enjoyed hearing all the familiar Bible readings and participating in the carol singing in our beautifully redecorated church. The service opened with the carol 'Once in royal David's city' with the first verse, as is customary led by a solo unaccompanied voice (Sophie Wells). Local opera star Sidonie Winter not only conducted the choir but also gave a moving rendition of 'O Thou That Tellest Good Tidings to Zion' from Handel's Messiah and the service closed to a medley of carols played by organist Stephen Wyman. We left the church suitably warmed by mulled wine and mince pies.
