Dear Parents/Carers,

Jeans for Genes – A brilliant £359.74p was raised on Jeans for Genes day on 22nd September.  Thank you again for all your kind donations, which will be forwarded to the ‘Genetic Disorders UK’ charity.

Harvest Festival – Thank you for all the harvest gifts that came into school today. The children took them to St. Peter’s Church for distribution among local charities and our Y6 children will then take the YR gifts to give to our local elderly residents here in Henfield.

Y2 visit Tilgate Park - As part of our topic "Meerkat Manor", Y2 visited Tilgate Park on Monday 25th September. We had a fabulous time feeding the meerkats and learning about them. We also saw an otter feed and met some of the creepy crawlies from the park.

Year Group Assemblies – Further to the notification of year group assembly dates earlier in September, it has become necessary to change the dates confirmed for Year 2 and Year 3.  Therefore the Year 3 assembly will be on Friday 26th January and the Year 2 assembly will take place on Friday 2nd February.

Staff News – We welcome Nikki Lean to our staff as a Midday Meal Supervisor.  With 2 children attending St. Peter’s, Nikki is already familiar with us, as a school, and we look forward to welcoming her as a staff member.

Inclusion Coffee Morning - St. Peter's will be holding an 'Inclusion Coffee Morning' on Friday 17th November giving Parents/Carers an opportunity to meet our  Inclusion Manager, Miss Watkins. Each term, Miss Watkins will be holding a coffee morning with different themes, and for this Autumn term she will be looking at the importance of communication and strategies to support children in the EYFS and KS1.  Please do join us on Friday 17th November 9-10am in our school hall, if you are able.

Flute Lessons – our visiting Flute teacher, Mr Smith has spaces available for any child wishing to learn to play the flute.  If you are interested, please contact the School Office or email Mr Smith direct on

Photos – next Thursday, JP Photographic will be in school to take individual pictures of the children.  We shall be contacting Parents who have not given photo permission over the coming days to check if you would like your child to have their picture taken.

Sports Reports

T-shirts – Our supply is desperately low so please could we ask Parents to check at home. It is a basic round neck with our school logo in white on the front (see photos on next page).  Currently we have over 10 missing and could really do with them returned as the children are having to wear the old, tatty ones.

Y3/Y4 Cross Country - On Thursday 28th September, our Y3/Y4 runners braved a chilly afternoon sun to run 1000m across the fields of Steyning Primary &  Steyning Grammar. 24 children took part in this annual event, producing some amazing individual and team results. Our Y3 boys/girls finished in 1st place out of our cluster of schools with our Y4 girls finishing 2nd and Y4 boys finishing in a respectable 3rd. Overall we finished in 2nd place just 20 points short of first. Special mention goes to Ayla, Y3 for coming 1st (proving watching Mo Farah the night before is a must), to Brandon, Y4 who finished 2nd and Beth who came 3rd. Also, to Elliott for  enthusiasm and excitement with his first race and to Sienna for her resilience.

Y5/Y6 Cross Country – It was the turn of the Y5/Y6's on Tuesday who ran nearly 1200m. With the heavy rain over the weekend making conditions slightly tougher, our teams took to the field with enthusiasm and determination! The Y5 girls and boys team stormed through to both finish in 1st place (4 boys out of 6 finishing in the top 10 and 4 out of 6 girls finishing in the top 11). Y6 boys ran against some extremely strong competition finishing in a fantastic 2nd place.  Our Y6 girls had a lot of work to do, once again finishing in 2nd place with 4 out of 6 in the top 10.

However, Steyning’s extremely strong Y6 girls team came in at an impressive 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th which unfortunately pushed us into 2nd position overall, just 7 points short of 1st place! All children raced extremely well but special mention goes to Bruno, Lili & Anna for finishing 1st in their races, to Livvy for resilience and finishing her first competitive race and to Hugo for resilience in not giving up despite gaining an injury quarter of the way around.

Kind regards,

L. Roberts

Deputy Headteacher
