N E W S L E T T E R NO 2 / SUMMER TERM 15th May 2018

I want to start by saying a huge well done to Year 2 and Year 6 who are studiously working on their SAT tests. They have put a massive effort into preparing for these and have done an amazing job. Thank you to our teachers and parents who have been instrumental in preparing these children for these tests. Year 6 have finished the English component of the tests today, while Year 2 still have one more ‘quiz’ to go next week. With a focus now on other year groups, it is our intention to undertake testing over the coming weeks, so that we have a clear picture on where the children are with their learning for the end of the year.

Y6 Production – Owing to a clash of dates with induction arrangements at our feeder schools, we have, unfortunately, had to move the Y6 production. The performances will now be on Tuesday 3rd July at 7.00pm and Friday 6th July at 5.30pm. Please make a note of this change in your diaries.

Homework Club – Following the changes to our Homework Policy, it has been decided to move Homework Club which was taking place during lunchbreak on a Friday, to a Wednesday each week.

Sports Reports
Netball tournament – 01.05.18
Following their success in winning the area competition, we qualified to play in the Sainsbury's games Area Partnership Finals at The Angmering School on 1st May. The team played a total of 9 games with 7 emphatic wins and 2 losses. Our fate was decided by goal difference, as we finished with equal points as Steyning Primary. Unfortunately this time we were just pipped to the post and finished a fantastic second place. This is a huge achievement, particularly for a relatively small school.
Rounders – 10.05.18
Congratulations to our Y5 Rounders team, captained by Toby, who attended our locality school's tournament at Upper Beeding Primary School on Thursday 10th May. Despite a rocky start losing our first game to Upper Beeding, we went on to win our next two games against Jolesfield and Steyning, leaving us in second place overall. All the children played extremely well despite not having had much practice due to the wet weather affecting our school field. Hopefully the sunny weather will continue and our Y4 & Y6 teams will have great success too. Once again, thank you to the parents who drove our children and cheered us on, your help is invaluable.

Medication in School – Under guidance from West Sussex County Council, there have been changes to the administration of medicines, prescribed and non-prescribed. To view the updated policy, please follow http://www.st-peters-henfield.w-sussex.sch.uk/?wpfb_dl=969.

Y1/Y2 Outdoor Area – Parents may have noted that the sleepers in the Y1/Y2 outdoor area are beginning to fall apart and look untidy. If any Parents have, or know someone who would be happy to donate some sleepers, we would be extremely grateful. Mr Percy, our Premises Officer has confirmed that they would need to be 262cm in length, depth of 13cm and a height of 18cm. Please let the Office know if you are able to help.
Please remember that nut products, which can be found in some chocolate spreads, should not be brought into school. We do have a number of pupils with nut allergies and a serious reaction could be caused, if they were to come into contact with any traces of nuts. We thank you for your co-operation with this important matter.

Did you know ...... the FA cup is officially the world’s oldest football competition. The first final was played in 1872 between The Royal Engineers and the Wanderers, who won 1-0. Only one team has ever won the Cup and then been relegated in the same season and that was Wigan in 2013 when they dropped out of the Premiership in the same year as they won the trophy. Forty three teams have won the FA cup, however Arsenal have won it more times than any other, winning for the 13th time in 2017.
