Henfield Shed came to the assistance of Henfield Bird Watch (HBW) during the year, building over 20 Swift nest boxes to add to those already erected by HBW at both established and potential nest sites throughout the village. Results were mixed – whilst mature Swifts, arriving first, occupied a number of boxes where youngsters were seen to fledge, and juveniles arriving later ‘buzzed’ and ‘banged’ the boxes perhaps as a prelude for use in future years, Starlings and House Sparrows, being on the scene before the Swifts arrived were quick to move into some boxes.

The Henfield Shed with its 30 plus members is part of the UK – wide group of some 500 similar groups, formed over the last few years where members come to together to connect, converse and create. We’ve built numerous nest boxes, including Barn Owl boxes, bird tables and feeders over the last two years.

We continue to be active in helping the Henfield community to conserve, protect and grow its natural habitat
