To build upon it’s very successful work experience programme for 18-24 year olds Horsham District Council have recently appointed a Rural Employment Development Officer (REDO). Working within the Economic Development Department, the main remit of the role is to engage with employers to try and improve opportunities for job seekers of all ages in rural areas where access to employment services are more restricted.
There are a number of potential employment projects that Geoff Averill, the new REDO, will be looking to develop in Henfield and other rural villages and towns in the District. They include placements for work experience and apprenticeships, job clubs and sector based work academies, all of which will help to develop job seekers’ employability skills.
Working alongside Jan English, Work Experience Co-ordinator and working in partnership with Horsham Job Centre Plus and other stakeholders such as Henfield
Community Partnership, Geoff will spend considerable time in the rural areas engaging with employers, community groups and parish councils to gain an understanding of local employment requirements to help match, where possible, local employment opportunities with local job seekers.
